At Kintner Chiropractic, I understand that life can often feel overwhelming.
That’s why I am dedicated to helping you find calm amidst the chaos. I recently prepared a talk titled “Finding Calm in the Midst of Chaos,” and I want to share some key insights that can help you navigate life’s challenges.
The MEDICATIONS +B Approach
To simplify the journey towards tranquility, I’ve created an acronym: MEDICATIONS. Each letter represents a vital component of well-being:
- M: Meditation & Mindfulness
- E: Exercise
- D: Diet
- I: Interactions
- C: Creativity
- A: Activity
- T: Talk
- I: Intentionality
- O: Organize
- N: Nature
- S: Sleep
- +B: Breath (added for emphasis)
Key Components Explained
Meditation & Mindfulness
Meditation can significantly reduce stress and reactivity. You don’t need complicated techniques; simply observing your breath or repeating a calming word can be effective. Remember, it’s a practice—stay committed!
Exercise
Regular physical activity releases “feel-good” hormones, enhancing your mood and overall health. Find an exercise you enjoy and make it a part of your routine.
Diet
The food you consume is your body’s chemistry. Prioritize quality proteins, healthy fats, and plenty of fruits and vegetables. Stay hydrated, as even mild dehydration can affect your mental clarity.
Positive Interactions
Surround yourself with positive people and limit exposure to negativity, especially from the media. Take breaks from news consumption and focus on what you can control.
Creativity
Engage in creative activities, whether it’s cooking, organizing, or any form of expression. Even small tasks can boost your mood and change your brain chemistry.
Refreshing Activities
Identify activities that bring you joy and make time for them. Life is short—prioritize what matters to you.
Communication
Talk to someone you trust. Whether it’s a friend, therapist, or spiritual advisor, sharing your thoughts can provide relief and support.
Intentionality
Act with purpose. Focus on your journey rather than just the end goal. Align your actions with your values to reduce stress and enhance well-being.
Organization
Join groups or communities to combat feelings of loneliness. Break challenges into manageable pieces and learn to say “no” to preserve your energy for what truly matters.
Nature
Spend time outdoors. Nature rejuvenates the spirit and promotes tranquility. As poet John O’Donohue said, “When your heart is confused or heavy, a day in Nature’s quiet eternity restores your lost tranquility.”
Prioritize Sleep
Sleep is essential for health, healing, and productivity. Make it a priority to ensure you’re well-rested.
Breath
Your breath is a powerful tool. Practice long, slow, deep breathing to calm your mind. Focus on elongating your exhalations, especially during stressful moments. Here’s how to Breathe Life Back Into Your Ambitions and Relationships.
